If Bixby isn’t working well, you can make it more responsive by helping it recognize your voice. Here’s how to improve Samsung’s virtual assistant.

Bixby is Samsung’s native voice assistant that comes pre-installed on all Samsung phones and tablets. And while it might not be the best voice assistant, it’s pretty underrated considering what it can do.

One thing that keeps us from recommending it, however, is that it can sometimes become unresponsive and not wake up with your voice. In this quick guide, we’ll show you how to make Bixby recognize your voice better on your Samsung device to make it more useful.

How to get Bixby to recognize your voice

There are a ton of things you can do with Bixby, like change device settings, play music, set timers, ask questions, call people, get weather forecasts, start your Bixby routines, and pretty much everything you’d expect from a voice assistant. .

But to do these things, Bixby should actually wake up when you say the keyword “Hi Bixby”. Unfortunately, Bixby isn’t as responsive as Google Assistant and sometimes fails to trigger. Some users also complain that Bixby tends to wake up unprompted.

It’s annoying, but luckily there is a way to fix this problem. Follow these steps:

  1. Open the Bixby app and tap the Settings icon.
  2. Faucet Voice alarm clock and activate Recognize the voice.
  3. Hurry Begin and follow the onscreen instructions, then touch Do once the session is over.

Your voice is now registered with Bixby and should make the voice wakeup trigger more consistent. If that’s still not good enough, you can continue to train Bixby by pressing Improve voice wake-up accuracy and record more samples. The more samples you save, the better Bixby gets.

If Bixby often wakes up unprompted (i.e. without your explicit command), consider reducing its wake-up sensitivity by dragging the slider to the left (Down). To avoid fumbling, we recommend keeping Speak transparently turned off, so you can get sound feedback after activating Bixby.

Train Bixby to better respond to you

While Google Assistant is better at carrying on ongoing conversations, Bixby is better at controlling your Samsung phone and connected devices thanks to its deep integration with the Galaxy ecosystem. But his smarts are useless if Bixby doesn’t even respond to you.

Luckily, you can train Bixby to recognize your voice better by following the steps we saw above. Once done, go ahead and try to wake him up again by saying the key word.
