Regarding Mr. Lavrov’s visit, the spokesperson said that discussions with HE President Sahle-Work Zewde and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister HE Demeke Mekonnen were fruitful and involved discussions on diversification bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of trade, technology transfer, agriculture and energy. .

According to Ambassador Meles, Lavrov expressed Russia’s readiness to support Africa’s bid for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council during his discussion with President Sahle-Work Zewde.

Speaking with the Russian Foreign Minister, Demeke said the Ethiopian-Russian relationship is historical and long-standing, and has stood the test of time, Ambassador Meles added.

Ambassador Meles says Russia has decided to modify Ethiopia’s debt to the former USSR, with a ‘development ministry package’, to help Ethiopia boost the technical capacity of the power plant of Melkawakena and to equip the Balcha hospital with modern medical equipment.

Ambassador Meles also mentioned the agreement between the two parties to organize a joint meeting of the Ethiopian-Russian Commission in the coming year, sign new agreements and accelerate the ratification and implementation of the agreements already. signed.

Regarding the registration of foreign nationals residing in Ethiopia without proper documents, the Ambassador said that 58,833 are registered so far, many of them from Canada, the United States, Congo, Nigeria, Yemen, Syria, Sudan, South Sudan, China, Eritrea, Burundi, Ghana, Bangladesh, India, Liberia, Cameroon and Italy.

Registration for the first round will remain until August 02, 2022, he said, further calling on foreign nationals to register according to the schedule.
